Unfortunately, the news is not good. In 2022 State of Cybercrime has grown even more concerning than in 2021. An increasingly large body of surveys and studies point to a more ubiquitous and costly cyberthreat environment emerging year over year. In fairness, this body of work is almost exclusively prepared by those with a vested interest in cybersecurity, primarily published by vendors of cybersecurity products or those connected to them. Much of the work relies on self-reported data, which can be inaccurate.
Although statistics may vary and one can scrutinize collection methods, the sheer volume of data is persuasive. It’s difficult to deny that the trend is toward an increasingly dangerous environment, thus demanding more sophisticated mitigation efforts.
